Transpositional modulation
Transpositional modulation (TM) is a proposed new RF modulation technique developed by Richard Gerdes. Gerdes claims that the technique represents a fourth fundamental form of carrier modulation, beside amplitude modulation, frequency modulation and phase modulation, and that the technique can be used either as a standalone modulation mode, or in conjunction with other modes in order to add a data channel to an existing communication channel at no cost of bandwidth expansion.〔
==History==
Gerdes filed early patents on an analog signal technology using harmonic modulation (then called Waveform Modulation) in the early 1990s as a proposed digital television standard.〔〔 The method was demonstrated at WBAL-TV in Baltimore, Maryland and KMBS-TV in Tucson, Arizona. Gerdes claimed at that time to have transmitted two simultaneous video signals (one a standard NTSC signal, and the second a Waveform Modulation signal) at the same carrier frequency with no degradation of the NTSC signal. Despite promising demonstration results, the sponsoring company withdrew the technology from consideration.〔
In its present TM form, which is appreciably different from the earlier technology, Medusa Scientific in 2013, announced a successful demonstration of a "breakthrough technology".〔 In July 2014, the company announced plans for an August 2014 launch of a satellite modem prototype and a September 2014 launch of UHD TV broadcast system.〔
